Kindle Covers Uncovered: Exploring the Pros, Cons and our Picks
Depending on individual priorities, with or without a cover, we weigh pros and cons based on personal reading habits and lifestyle to help you choose.
Kindle Covers Uncovered: Exploring the Pros, Cons and our Picks
In our literature and technology article, we highlighted the convenience of our "portable libraries", allowing us to tote thousands of stories in our bags with minimal added weight.
However, for some individuals, the weight can be significant, serving as a deterrent to adding that of the device's case. On the side of the spectrum, while knowing that the device itself is designed for convenience and portability, many others often debate whether investing in a cover is worth it due to it's advantages, which include protection –shielding the device against scratches– and personalization– covers coming in a wide array of colours, patterns, and materials.
Choosing whether to invest in a Kindle cover ultimately depends on your priorities and preferences. If protection, personalization, and added features are crucial to you, a cover might be a worthwhile investment. On the other hand, if you prioritize a slim and lightweight reading experience, you might prefer the naked Kindle. Consider the pros and cons carefully, and find the balance that aligns with your reading habits and lifestyle.
In case you'd like to go for it, in this post, we'll help you choose by showcasing the ones we have tried ourselves for our Kindles Paperwhite and Oasis. All of them include the practical magnetic auto sleep/wake lid.
N.B. The first three are for the 'Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 2021 release (11th generation)' and the rest are for the 'Kindle Oasis 2017 or 2019 releases (9th or 10th generations)'.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 2021 release (11th generation)
Kindle Paperwhite Fabric Cover
Very basic but if you have very dry hands you'll find the fabric to be a bit uncomfortable. I would advise to go for a leather one.
Kindle Paperwhite Leather Cover
Again nothing fancy, simple and does what it says. Still the microfibre interior might make it a bit uncomfortable for those with dry hands.
FINTIE Folio Vegan Leather Book Style Cover for Kindle Paperwhite
We really loved this one. The brown leather imitating an old book was a plus. In a previous version of this it was all leather, inside and out, which would give a nice sensation to the touch when reading with the lid folded completely behind the book.
Kindle Oasis 2017 or 2019 releases (9th or 10th generations)
Kindle Oasis Leather Cover
Just like the leather one we've just discussed for the other Kindle edition. Simple but with microfibre interior.
Kindle Oasis Premium Leather Cover
The feel on this premium leather one is simply amazing. You have to be willing to tolerate scratches because this leather is very prone to them. Personally, I don't mind them at all. I think they add more character to my e-reader.
Kindle Oasis PU Leather Cover H01
Considerably bulkier than the previous ones. However, it does the job especially for those with very dry hands. You can fold back the lid in a way that you end up avoiding to touch the microfibre interior while reading.
Hope this selection will help you make up your mind.
Happy reading!
